Purpose of review: Nasal dressings are commonly used following endoscopic sinus surgery in an attempt to prevent ongoing bleeding and to modulate the wound healing process.

What do they put in your nose after sinus surgery?

Nasal Saline Spray: Nasal saline mist spray can be used every 2-3 hours after surgery and can make your nose more comfortable after surgery. These sprays (Ayr, Ocean, Simple Saline) are over-the-counter medications and can be purchased in any pharmacy.

How do you keep your nose moist after surgery?

AFTER SURGERY CARE: Salt-water/Saline irrigation is highly recommended to decrease swelling and inflammation that may occur post operatively. The use of saline irrigation eight to ten (8-10) times per day in each nostril can be quite helpful to moisturize the nose and clear debris.

When can I remove the gauze after septoplasty?

You will have a gauze pad under your nose, held in place with a sling. Changing the gauze every 30-40 minutes the first night is normal. You may remove the gauze and sling after the first day.

Can you breathe with nasal packing?

External splint removal should not result in any type of discomfort. When internal splints are taken out, patients may feel pressure and some mild irritation, but it is short-lived, and often followed by a feeling of relief to have the splint out of place.

How do you get dried blood out of nose after septoplasty?

Use a Q-tip moistened with hydrogen peroxide to clean dried blood or crust from the nostrils. You may also use Vaseline or saline gel to soften the crust. If you need to sneeze, be sure to open your mouth so that the pressure will be released through the mouth and not the nose.

How long do I have to sleep elevated after septoplasty?

Prop up your head You will have to sleep with your head elevated for 24-48 hours after surgery to help the bleeding slow down and help the swelling resolve. Prior to surgery, set up your bed with at least two pillows so you can prop your head up at night.
