How does a Tecumseh primer bulb work?
The primer bulb on some Tecumseh engines is acutally a small air pump. Pressing the primer pumps air into the float bowl. This small volumn of air displaces some of the fuel that is in the float bowl. The fuel travels up the venturi tube into the venturi area.
Why will my small engine not start?
Disconnected, dirty or fouled spark plugs are common causes for engines that won’t start. Spark plugs typically need to be replaced every season or 25 hours of use. You should also check that the spark plug gap is set properly. These can range from a faulty spark plug lead, shorted kill switch or flywheel key damage.
How can I tell how old my Tecumseh engine is?
Look for the engine model number. You may find it stamped on the blower housing or on an engine identification label located on the front or top of the engine or under the engine cover. Find the date-of-manufacture code, usually found near the abbreviation “D.O.M.” or at the end of the engine model number.

What to do if Tecumseh engine won’t start?
Open the tank and check out the top of the tank. If you feel moisture there, it means condensation is present there. It means the water is mixed with the gas and you will have to drain it off and refill the tank.Remove the spark plug from the engine and leave the wire from the starter attached.
Where does the gas come from in a Tecumseh engine?
Fuel flows from the tank thru a strainer (often in-tank), thru the fuel line to the carb body. It falls thru the carb body into the float bowl when the carb float falls as the engine consumes gas. Fuel is drawn by the engine from the float bowl thru small drillings in the side of the bolt that retains the bowl.
Why does my Honda small engine not start?
If there is no spark, this indicates that the spark plug is defective and should be replaced. The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the engine for a long period of time.
Why does my lawn mower not start after replacing the CARB?
The whole problem started with flooding of the carb, and sure enough, the float had gas in it so I replaced the float, leveled it, cleaned all orifices in the carb, replaced the seat and needle. When it initially flooded it would take about a minute of running for it to flood out, now it won’t even start unless I continually spray gas into it.
