Is a pie graph a chart?
A Pie Chart (or Pie Graph) is a special chart that uses “pie slices” to show relative sizes of data. The chart is divided into sectors, where each sector shows the relative size of each value.

The slices in the pie typically represent percentages of the total. With categorical data, the sample is often divided into groups and the responses have a defined order.

A data chart is a type of diagram or graph, that organizes and represents a set of numerical or qualitative data. Maps that are adorned with extra information (map surround) for a specific purpose are often known as charts, such as a nautical chart or aeronautical chart, typically spread over several map sheets.
How do you put data into a pie chart?
Click Insert > Chart > Pie, and then pick the pie chart you want to add to your slide. In the spreadsheet that appears, replace the placeholder data with your own information. Could a pie chart be used to display the data?
A pie chart is best used when trying to work out the composition of something. If you have categorical data then using a pie chart would work really well as each slice can represent a different category.
How do you make a data chart?
Create a chart
- Select the data for which you want to create a chart.
- Click INSERT > Recommended Charts.
- On the Recommended Charts tab, scroll through the list of charts that Excel recommends for your data, and click any chart to see how your data will look.
- When you find the chart you like, click it > OK.
