What items Cannot be purchased with an EBT card?
Things you CANNOT buy using EBT / SNAP:
- Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco.
- Any nonfood items, such as: pet foods, soaps, paper products and household supplies.
- Vitamins and medicines.
- Food that will be eaten in the store.
- Hot foods or foods that are already prepared.
Can I buy frozen food with EBT card?
EBT cards work for purchasing certain other, nonessential food items. For example, you can purchase prepackaged meals, such as pasta dishes, frozen entrees, rice dishes and canned soup. Additionally, dessert items such as cakes made in a bakery, packaged desserts, fruit snacks or ice cream are eligible.
Does EBT cover soda?
Nonfood items such as pet foods, soaps, paper products, medicines and vitamins, household supplies, grooming items, and cosmetics, also are ineligible for purchase with SNAP benefits. Soft drinks, candy, cookies, snack crackers, and ice cream are food items and are therefore eligible items.
Is food coloring covered by EBT?
Types you can buy with EBT: Vinegar; cooking oils including vegetable, canola, and coconut oil; food coloring, condiments; spices; artificial sweeteners; salt substitutes; and cooking spray — these products carry nutrition information labels and are therefore considered food.
Does Burger King take EBT?
At a minimum, you can only use your EBT card at Burger King if you live in a state that partakes in the Restaurant Meals Program (RMP). However, Burger King is only authorized to take EBT in California and Arizona, and you’re less likely to find Burger King locations that take EBT in the other four states.
What can’t you buy with food stamps?

Any food that will be eaten in the store. Any hot food. Non-edible items like laundry supplies, paper products, and pet foods.
Can you buy rotisserie chicken with EBT?
Types you can buy with EBT: Fresh sliced or pre-sliced deli meats and cheeses; packaged deli foods and prepared foods (including rotisserie chicken and cold sushi) that will be eaten at home. Exception: Hot/prepared foods to be eaten at a store, such as in-store café services, can’t be purchased with EBT cards /food stamps.
What foods does snap cover?
It does cover groceries that can be eaten without further preparation like fresh fruits, cheese sticks , or snacks. SNAP benefits will cover junk food like potato chips, pretzels, and ice cream.
Does EBT pay for vitamins?
This is true even if you are shopping at a store or gas station that accepts the EBT card . Benefits also cannot be used to pay for vitamins or over-the-counter medicines. Depending on your eligibility, you may be able to get vitamins and over-the-counter medicines covered through other aid programs.
