What causes antifreeze in spark plugs?
Coolant Problems The problem could be a leaking intake manifold or a head gasket, and the fouled plug might be localized to one or two adjacent cylinders. The burned coolant leaves deposits on the electrodes and insulator, creating hot spots that could cause pre-ignition and a misfire code being set.
Can bad spark plugs cause coolant leak?
So, a spark plug that shows, heavy whitish to brown deposits may indicate a coolant leak. This type of problem will only get worse and; lead to even greater problems, if the leak isn’t fixed.
What does it mean when you have oil in your spark plug hole?
You may find oil on a spark plug because: Too much oil was mixed with the gasoline. The piston rings (the component that seals piston and cylinder) are failing. If valve stems or valve seals are worn, oil can slip past them into the cylinder and coat the spark plug.
What does a spark plug look like with a blown head gasket?
Inspect each spark plug for failure signs. Dark sooting from misfiring, water droplets, brown spotting, and rust around the threads are all signs of head gasket failure. In some cases, where severe gasket failure has occurred, condensation and moisture will accumulate on the plug boots.
How does antifreeze get into spark plug hole?
At first this is what i thought was happening. some how antifreeze was getting into the cylinder and as the pressure built up it pushed the antifreeze through the spark plug and into the spark plug hole. I really have no idea how this is happening.
How does oil get through spark plug hole?
It would have to go in the cylinder the somehow get through the spark plug which if they are in tight it can’t happen or through the gasket in the vale cover for the spark plugs. If it was that you would have oil mixing with it.
What to do if you have a hole in your spark plug?
Check your hoses near the valve cover one might have a pin hole in it. Also if you have a old set of spark plug wires laying around cut the lip from around the boot where they seal up the spark plug well. Install them then start the car and see if you can see where it is coming from.
