Satellite images showed the present of a hotspot at the volcano on 24th January. Ash emissions occurred at Sangay volcano in June 2009 and reached a height of 25,000 ft above sea level. The volcano continued its activity, which was characterised by frequent explosions from the central crater, and directed southward.
