How do you pay for Metro North?
Sydney Metro is part of the Opal network and you can pay your fare with an Opal card. Fares are the same as existing train fares and all Opal card benefits apply. You can also pay your fare with a contactless credit or debit card or linked device.
How do you activate a Metro North ticket?
To activate your ticket simply go to your Ticket Wallet, choose the applicable ticket and click on the “Activate Ticket” button. Your Ticket Wallet is the place where all of your purchased tickets are stored. It can be found on the home screen of the mobile App.
How do round trip Metro North tickets work?
The ticket is valid for 60 days from the date of purchase for peak and off-peak travel on all Metro-North trains. You can buy a round-trip ticket with a $5.50 MetroCard on the reverse side. If you buy the MetroCard separately, you will pay an additional $1 for the card.

Pay-Per-Ride Fares Up to four people can ride together on a single Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard. If multiple people are riding together on the same MetroCard the first person can swipe the card through the necessary number of times and other riders can walk through the turnstile following them.

Can you buy one way Metro North tickets?
You can only buy one-way tickets onboard. Off-peak tickets will be “stepped up” to the peak fare when presented on peak trains. Step-up fares and extension-of-ride fares, which are charged for traveling beyond the stations listed on the ticket, will be rounded up to the next dollar.

On Metro-North trains, peak fares also apply to travel on any weekday train that leaves Grand Central Terminal between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Off-peak fares are charged all other times on weekdays, all day Saturday and Sunday, and on holidays.
