Why does my car clock run fast?
If the clock running fast in a car then the problem is with the clock, not the car. A car contains a lot of machines, high power supply, radio system, music system, analog for readings, GPS, and so on. Along with these, the digital clock is attached. There are lots of reasons of gaining extra minutes in a car.
How does a car clock work?
The clocks are run through a set of contact points wired in series with the solenoid coil. As the clock runs, an arm with one contact point moves closer to its mating contact. The design is such that it allows the points to close, completing the circuit before the spring winding runs down.

When you crank, the voltage levels at the terminals drop usually. Now, with a weak or an old battery, it drops even more. Hence, its not about Battery not able to supply power to that tiny clock. Its the clock that gets reset (along with ICE and other things) every time you crank.
